PSC Hands Over 50,000 Newly Recruited Constables to Police for Training

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially handed over 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force for training, marking a major step toward strengthening the country's security workforce.

The handover ceremony was conducted on Thursday by Commissioner I of the PSC, retired Justice Paul Galumje, who said the recruitment followed the directive of President Bola Tinubu and complied with relevant legal provisions.

Galumje praised the President for supporting the recruitment exercise and formally presented the successful candidates to the police authorities for training at designated police colleges and other approved institutions. He also handed over the complete list of recruits in a digital format to the Nigeria Police Force.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Deputy Inspector-General Isyaku Mohammed, in charge of the Force Training and Development Department, commended the PSC for conducting what he described as a transparent and credible recruitment process.

Mohammed stated that training for the newly recruited constables would begin simultaneously across the country as soon as funding for the exercise is released.

Also speaking, the Director of the Police Service Department in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Muhammad, described the recruitment process as fair, transparent, and credible.

PSC Secretary Onyemuche Nnamani attributed the successful completion of the recruitment exercise to the strong collaboration among all stakeholders, noting that teamwork played a vital role throughout the process.

President Bola Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency in November 2025 and approved the recruitment of 50,000 police officers to boost the operational strength of the Nigeria Police Force and address rising security challenges across the country.

The recruitment application portal opened in December 2025 and closed in February 2026 after an extension. With the recruitment process now completed, the new constables are expected to undergo training before being deployed nationwide.
