Iran has submitted a formal complaint to the United Nations, accusing the United States of violating a ceasefire agreement 42 times and urging the UN Security Council to take action.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council, Iran's Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, alleged that Washington repeatedly breached the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed on June 17, 2026, to end months of conflict.
According to Iran, the agreement included commitments to maintain a permanent ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping, and ease restrictions linked to the conflict. Tehran claims the United States began violating the deal shortly after it was signed.
The letter lists alleged violations between June 18 and July 13, including military actions, new sanctions, restrictions on Iranian oil exports, and what Iran describes as interference in arrangements for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran also accused the United States of failing to uphold obligations related to regional stability and criticized the Security Council for what it called an inadequate response to the alleged breaches.
The complaint rejects US claims that Yemen's Ansarullah movement operates under Iranian direction, stating that the group makes its own decisions independently.
The United States has not publicly responded to the latest allegations contained in Iran's letter to the United Nations. The accusations reflect Iran's position, and the claims have not been independently verified.
