Tinubu renames Kaduna petroleum institute after Shehu Musa Yar’Adua

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, in honour of the late military officer, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, calling it the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.

Tinubu made the announcement on Friday during his Democracy Day address, saying the decision was part of efforts to recognise key figures who contributed to Nigeria’s transition to democratic rule.

He said General Yar’Adua was honoured for his vision of national unity and his role among those who laid the foundation for modern democratic Nigeria.

“In recognition of his contributions, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna,” the President stated.

The renaming is part of a broader series of national recognitions announced by the President, which includes honours for more than 30 individuals described as heroes of Nigeria’s June 12 democracy struggle.

Tinubu also said full details of the national honours list will be released in the coming days.

General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua is widely remembered as a key figure in Nigeria’s military and political history, particularly for his involvement in the democratic transition process.
