Myanmar Military Bombs Four Towns in Rakhine State, Arakan Army Reports

The Myanmar military has carried out airstrikes on four towns in Rakhine State, according to a statement from the Arakan Army (AA).

The reported attacks targeted Gwa, Kyintali, Lay Taung, and Kyaukphyu, causing civilian casualties, damage to schools and homes, and destruction of infrastructure.

The Arakan Army said a June 14 airstrike hit a monastery and school in Kyauk Chun Village, Gwa Township, injuring one civilian and damaging nearby buildings. The attack also killed one cow and injured another.

Another military strike on Ramma Kyun Village in Kyintali Township on June 15 reportedly killed two civilians and injured four others. The victims were identified as local residents aged 50 and 38.

The report also said Myanmar forces carried out attacks in Lay Taung and Kyaukphyu Township, destroying a Buddhist monastery, damaging houses, and killing livestock.

In Kyaukphyu, military forces also allegedly opened fire on civilian travelers along the river and detained 14 merchants and workers travelling by boat.

The Arakan Army accused Myanmar’s military of increasing attacks on civilian areas, while the military has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The violence comes amid ongoing fighting between Myanmar’s military government and armed groups seeking control in several regions of the country.
