An Akure Magistrate’s Court has heard a disturbing case in which two teenage boys were allegedly trafficked, sold, and forced into street hawking after being lured from their community in Ondo State.
According to police prosecutors, the incident occurred around November 2025 when the victims—then aged 14 and 15—were allegedly deceived by suspects who claimed their father wanted to see them. They were reportedly taken from a riverbank area in Ute and moved through Utesi before being transported to Benin City.
The court heard that the boys were allegedly sold for ₦18,000 each and handed over to individuals who forced them to hawk goods on the streets. They were said to have spent about four months in captivity, during which they were later separated and allegedly resold for a higher amount.
The victims were eventually traced and rescued by police, leading to their reunion with their families.
Three suspects were arraigned on charges including child trafficking, abduction, and related offences under the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State. They all pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody by the court pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case has been adjourned to August 4, 2026, and transferred to a family court division for further proceedings.
