Suspected Serial Killer Confesses to Multiple Murders as 8 Decapitated Bodies Found in Cross River Forest

Security operatives in Cross River State have uncovered a disturbing mass killing case after discovering shallow graves containing mutilated remains in a forested area of Odukpani Local Government Area.

According to reports confirmed by the state police spokesperson, a suspect identified as Akaninyene, believed to be in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with the killings and allegedly confessed to murdering around 30 people over several months.

The breakthrough came after security forces raided his hideout in Abanyama, Ukim Ita community, where intelligence had linked him to a series of missing persons cases. During the operation, officers reportedly found concealed burial sites beneath farmland, including plantain crops, where at least eight graves containing headless bodies were exhumed.

Investigators say the suspect led them to multiple locations where decomposing remains were recovered. He also allegedly claimed that an accomplice, a woman, helped lure victims to the secluded area and restrained them during the attacks.

Residents say suspicion had grown in the community after repeated disappearances and unsettling noises were heard near the suspect’s isolated hut in recent weeks. Community leaders later escalated concerns to local authorities, prompting coordinated security action that led to his arrest.

The case has shocked residents of Creek Town and surrounding areas, with youth groups continuing searches for possible additional burial sites and accomplices.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to verify the suspect’s confessions and determine the full extent of the killings, according to Daily Trust.
