Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) says it has carried out a retaliatory strike on an air base it claims was used by the United States (United States) to launch an earlier attack on a telecommunications facility in southern Iran.
In a statement released on Monday, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force said it targeted and destroyed what it described as a military base linked to the strike on a telecom tower located on Sirik Island in Hormozgan Province, southern Iran (Iran).
According to the statement, the operation was launched in response to what Tehran described as a “provocative attack” on a communications installation. The IRGC claimed its forces identified and struck the origin point of the assault, adding that “pre-planned targets were successfully destroyed.”
The group also issued a warning that any further military action would trigger a stronger response, placing responsibility for escalation on the opposing side.
The announcement follows reports from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) that American forces conducted “self-defense strikes” against Iranian radar and drone command infrastructure over the weekend. Washington said the action was a response to alleged hostile activity, including the downing of a U.S. reconnaissance drone operating over international waters.
Earlier, Iranian state media reported that IRGC air defense units had shot down an intruding MQ-1 drone over the Persian Gulf region, further heightening tensions between the two countries.
The situation remains fluid, with both sides presenting conflicting accounts of recent military exchanges.
