A fire triggered by an explosion at a Hanwha Aerospace facility in South Korea has left five people dead and two others injured, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at the company’s plant in Daejeon on Monday, where emergency responders were deployed after reports of a major blaze inside the facility. Fire officials said the situation began with an explosion, although the exact cause is still under investigation.
Rescue teams confirmed that two survivors managed to escape the site on their own, including one person who sustained severe burn injuries and was taken for treatment.
Authorities said identifying the victims has been difficult due to the extent of damage caused by the fire. Officials are continuing forensic efforts to determine identities and establish the sequence of events.
Hanwha Aerospace, a major South Korean defence and aerospace manufacturer known for producing propulsion systems and handling rocket-related materials, said it is cooperating fully with the investigation.
The factory layout could not be immediately accessed by emergency investigators due to national security restrictions, according to officials.
