Iran has carried out the execution of a man convicted of espionage for the American CIA and Israel’s Mossad after the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence.
Iranian authorities identified the convict as Erfan Shakourzadeh, who was accused of passing classified information to foreign intelligence agencies while working with an Iranian organization involved in satellite technology.
According to judicial reports, Shakourzadeh allegedly established contact with Israeli intelligence operatives and later sought communication with the CIA. Investigators claimed he shared sensitive information about his work, missions, and personal background with Mossad agents.
Officials said the accused was initially approached online by an individual posing as an Iranian expatriate living in Canada, who allegedly offered him opportunities to work on foreign projects paid in US dollars.
Iranian authorities stated that the espionage activities were confirmed through documents and confessions presented during legal proceedings. The judiciary said all legal procedures were completed before the execution was carried out early Monday.
The case comes amid heightened tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, with Tehran continuing to emphasize strict action against individuals accused of cooperating with foreign intelligence agencies.
