Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, has referenced a historic Persian military triumph to caution the United States and Israel amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a message posted on X, Baghaei recalled the famous Battle of Carrhae in 53 BC, where Persian General General Surena defeated the Roman army despite being heavily outnumbered.
According to Baghaei, the battle proved that powerful empires can be defeated through strategy and resilience. He noted that Roman commander Crassus was killed in the conflict and said the defeat shattered Rome’s image of invincibility.
“History repeats itself for those who fail to learn from it,” the spokesman stated, drawing parallels between the ancient battle and present-day tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The remarks come as hostilities between Iran and its rivals continue following months of military confrontation in the region. Tehran has repeatedly stressed that it would resist what it describes as foreign aggression and pressure.
Baghaei also compared ancient Persian military tactics with Iran’s modern defense strategy, saying smaller and flexible forces can challenge technologically advanced opponents through asymmetric warfare methods such as drones, missiles, and naval operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials maintain that sanctions, military pressure, and naval restrictions imposed by the United States will not force Tehran to retreat from its strategic positions.
