Bahraini security authorities have arrested 41 people accused of expressing support for Iran and its retaliatory operations amid escalating tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Tehran.
In a statement released on Saturday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry alleged that the suspects had connections with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), though officials did not provide detailed evidence regarding the claims.
Authorities said the detainees were taken into custody following investigations into alleged communication with “foreign entities,” adding that legal procedures against the suspects are ongoing. The ministry also warned that additional measures would be introduced to identify others allegedly linked to the network.
The latest arrests come weeks after Bahraini authorities revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals and their families over social media posts viewed as supportive of Iran’s military actions against US and Israeli targets in the region.
Human rights groups and opposition figures have previously accused the Bahraini government of intensifying crackdowns on dissent and targeting activists, particularly within the country’s Shia majority community.
Earlier this year, opposition movement al-Wefaq claimed that a young Bahraini man, Sayyed Mohammed al-Moussawi, died in custody after allegedly being tortured during interrogation. Authorities have not publicly commented on the allegation.
Bahrain, a close US ally in the Gulf region, has strongly condemned Iran’s military operations targeting American interests and has adopted one of the toughest stances against Tehran among Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
