Tinubu to Launch 2027 Re-election Campaign in Kaduna on October 24

Tinubu to Launch 2027 Re-election Campaign in Kaduna on October 24

President Bola Tinubu is set to launch his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, according to the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

Yari disclosed this on Friday after meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he briefed the President on preparations for the forthcoming campaign.

He said the council's inaugural meeting would take place on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, adding that the campaign would officially commence in Kaduna ten days later.

According to Yari, the campaign council has also prepared a schedule of state visits, which Tinubu has approved. The full timetable will be made public after the council's inauguration.

He identified Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Maiduguri, Borno State, as the next destinations following the Kaduna rally.

Defending Tinubu's chances of securing a second term, Yari argued that a presidential candidate must have substantial political support in both northern and southern Nigeria to win the election.

He maintained that Tinubu's political influence across both regions gives him an advantage over his opponents, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

Yari also defended the administration's performance, claiming that the government had made progress in addressing the country's economic challenges and had enough achievements to present to Nigerians.

Tinubu appointed Yari as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council on August 22, 2026. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were appointed vice chairmen.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027. According to the commission's timetable, campaigns are permitted from August 19, 2026, until January 15, 2027.

INEC has announced that 18 candidates are contesting the presidency. Among them are Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The forthcoming election is expected to be a major political contest as candidates and their parties intensify preparations to win the support of Nigerian voters.
