Ex-Obi Campaign Leader Joins Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Campaign

Ex-Obi Campaign Leader Joins Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Campaign

Marcel Ngogbehei, a former chairman of the Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO), has joined the political movement supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Ngogbehei has been appointed Director-General of the alliance between the Tinubu Must Stay Movement and the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration (DMI), a political platform focused on grassroots mobilisation, public engagement and accountability.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the alliance’s Communications Directorate.

The movement’s Board of Trustees Chairman and Convener, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, expressed confidence in Ngogbehei’s ability to lead the organisation, citing their longstanding professional relationship spanning more than 25 years.

Abdullahi said their previous collaboration had demonstrated Ngogbehei’s leadership qualities and ability to deliver results, particularly during their work at Galaxy Backbone Plc and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to him, their contributions included technology-related initiatives such as the CBN Cashless Policy and the bank’s Enterprise Architecture function, which he said resulted in savings exceeding $1 million.

Ngogbehei previously served as Director of Strategy at the Peter Obi Support Network before becoming chairman of the Coalition for Peter Obi, which supported the former Anambra State governor during the 2023 presidential election.

He later became Director-General of the DMI before the organisation formalised its alliance with the Tinubu Must Stay Movement.

The alliance said it would challenge opposition parties to present practical alternatives to the policies of the Tinubu administration while maintaining that the government must also be assessed based on its performance.

It stressed that political parties should move beyond criticism and explain how their proposed policies would address Nigeria’s major challenges, including unemployment, rising living costs, electricity shortages and inadequate public services.

The statement questioned how opposition parties intended to create jobs, reduce the cost of living, improve electricity supply and strengthen the education and healthcare sectors, while also explaining how they would finance their proposals.

Ngogbehei, a graduate of Computer and Electronics Engineering from Lagos State University, has worked on technology and public-sector projects in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

He is also the founder of GiveBack2Humanity, an initiative focused on youth mentorship and community development.

In his new role, Ngogbehei is expected to coordinate the alliance’s organisational structures, grassroots mobilisation efforts and civic-accountability activities as political groups intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.

His move represents a shift from his previous role in the political network supporting Peter Obi to a leadership position within a movement campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election.
