Bollywood Actor Imran Khan Ordered to Leave India After Participating in Protest

Indian authorities have reportedly ordered Bollywood actor Imran Khan to leave the country by October 28 following his participation in a protest against India's Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.

According to local media reports, the authorities accused the 43-year-old actor of violating immigration regulations by taking part in a political demonstration.

Khan, who is a United States citizen, participated in a rally in Mumbai on October 10. The protesters demanded Kumar's resignation over revisions to India's voter lists, which opposition parties and critics claim could favour the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reports by The Indian Express and The Times of India indicated that a complaint was filed against the actor at a police station in Mumbai over his participation in the demonstration.

Following the complaint, India's Foreigners Regional Registration Office reportedly issued Khan a notice directing him to leave the country.

Indian immigration laws may restrict foreign nationals from participating in certain political protests, and violations could lead to immigration-related consequences.

On the day of the protest, Khan posted a photograph on Instagram showing him making a victory sign while sitting inside what appeared to be a police van. He accompanied the image with the caption, "Apparently I'm going for a drive."

The actor had not publicly responded to the reported order at the time of publication.

Imran Khan, the nephew of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, comes from a prominent Indian film family. He rose to fame through several successful Bollywood movies released between 2008 and 2015 before stepping away from acting.
