Currys Celebrates 30 Years of Operations in Ireland

British electrical retailer Currys is celebrating 30 years since it opened its first store in Ireland.

The company launched its Irish operations in October 1996 with a store at the Jervis Shopping Centre in Dublin. Since then, it has expanded its presence across the country and now operates 16 stores, employing more than 600 people.

To mark the milestone, Currys has launched a nationwide competition giving three Irish primary schools the opportunity to win €3,000 worth of technology each.

The initiative is aimed at supporting schools and helping improve access to technology for pupils.

Jaimie Cantwell, Head of Brand and Marketing at Currys Ireland, said the 30th anniversary was an important milestone for the company and that the retailer wanted to celebrate by making a lasting contribution to communities across Ireland.

She noted that technology has changed significantly since Currys opened its first Irish store in 1996 and has become increasingly important in children's education and learning.

Students from Presentation Primary School George’s Hill in Dublin helped launch the anniversary celebrations.

Currys, which was originally founded in Leicester in 1884 as a bicycle-building business, has since grown into a major electrical retailer.
