Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has vowed to resign from office if Nigerians do not begin to experience meaningful changes within one year of an ADC administration.
Amaechi made the statement during an appearance on AIT on Wednesday, while outlining what he said would be the priorities of an ADC government if elected in the 2027 general election.
According to him, Nigerians should begin to feel a “breath of fresh air” within the first year of the administration.
“If Nigeria does not begin to change one year after we come to office, come to me, I will resign,” Amaechi said.
He identified security, education and the economy as three major areas that must be addressed for the country to make progress.
Amaechi also stressed the need to tackle corruption, arguing that funds meant for national development are being diverted into private pockets.
He criticised the removal of the petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the policy had not translated into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.
The former Minister of Transportation also questioned the source of funds being spent at social gatherings amid what he described as widespread poverty and hunger.
Amaechi further expressed concern over Nigeria’s dependence on imported finished goods, saying the country now imports more than 46 percent of such products.
He also referred to recent public reactions to President Tinubu’s movement from the Lagos International Airport to his residence, saying Nigerians would not react similarly to an ADC administration if it delivers on its promises.
“We will change Nigeria,” he said.
