Police Arrest Imran Khan’s Sister Ahead of Planned PTI March

Police have arrested Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, at her home in Lahore ahead of a planned protest march by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

According to a PTI Punjab spokesperson, Aleema Khan was arrested on Sunday as the party prepares for a march to Islamabad on September 27, demanding the release of Imran Khan.

A notification from Lahore’s district administration said Aleema Khan had been detained and sent to jail for 30 days. The administration said intelligence reports indicated that her presence in public places could pose a serious threat to public safety.

PTI has organised the planned march as part of its campaign for Imran Khan’s release. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that the government would take all necessary measures to prevent the protest from taking place.

Zulfi Bukhari, a close aide to Imran Khan, condemned Aleema Khan’s arrest, describing it as “absolutely despicable” and saying the upcoming September 27 protest was creating pressure on the government.

Imran Khan, who remains in jail, is the founder and leader of PTI, which has continued to demand his release.
