NSCIA Calls Muslims Nationwide to Special Prayer for Nigeria

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has scheduled a special national prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria.

The prayer will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The programme is being convened under the leadership of the President-General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, the prayer will provide Muslims with an opportunity to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.

The NSCIA also announced that its General Assembly will be held at the same venue on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 10 a.m.

The council described the General Assembly as its highest decision-making organ and the largest gathering of the NSCIA.

The assembly will bring together the Sultan of Sokoto, the Shehu of Borno and Deputy President-General (North), Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.

Muslim public office holders, including governors, National Assembly members, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory, are also expected to attend.

Representatives of Islamic organisations, members of the General Purpose Committee and Expanded General Purpose Committee, and prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria will also participate.

The council said the General Assembly would provide a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the NSCIA, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.

The NSCIA urged Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development in the country.

The council also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the stability and progress of Nigeria.
