The Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club (MUMSC) has called for a change in the club’s ownership structure, saying it has lost confidence in the current leadership.
The group’s demand followed recent comments by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe during a BBC interview, in which he discussed immigration, taxes and welfare and said Britain was “on the slide.”
Ratcliffe, founder of petrochemical company Ineos, attributed what he described as the country’s decline to high taxes and high levels of immigration.
In a statement reported by BBC Sport on Saturday, MUMSC described Ratcliffe’s latest remarks as “deeply disappointing and completely unacceptable.” The group said it had previously criticised comments he made in February about immigration.
Ratcliffe had earlier described Britain as having been “colonised by immigrants” before apologising for the wording.
MUMSC said it had hoped Ratcliffe had learned from the earlier controversy, but added that it was disappointed by his latest comments.
The supporters’ group also criticised the club’s ownership over issues including increased ticket prices, the condition of Old Trafford and the team’s performances.
“After years of decline, broken promises and repeated failure, Manchester United Muslim Supporters’ Club has lost confidence in the current ownership structure of Manchester United Football Club,” the group said.
It added: “Enough is enough. It is time for change. The Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe must go.”
MUMSC said Manchester United’s identity was built around a diverse community of players, staff, stewards, security personnel and supporters from different countries, cultures, ethnicities and religions.
The group said the club “would not be Manchester United without them.”
Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7 per cent stake in Manchester United in 2024 and has since overseen significant restructuring at the club, including hundreds of redundancies and organisational changes.
