IRGC Commander Says Trump, Netanyahu Face Fate Similar to Saddam Hussein

A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Ramazan Sharif, has said US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will face “misery and shame” over their military campaign against Iran.

Sharif, an adviser to the IRGC chief commander, made the remarks on Sunday during a gathering in Tehran. He compared Trump and Netanyahu to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who led Iraq during its eight-year war with Iran in the 1980s.

According to Press TV, Sharif said Iran and its armed forces had emerged victorious from what he described as months of US-Israeli military aggression and economic pressure.

He claimed that the United States would eventually be forced to accept defeat, citing the rise in global energy prices associated with the conflict.

Sharif said Washington launched its military campaign against Iran in late February with the objective of overthrowing the Iranian government within a week. He added that Iran’s resistance had forced the United States to move its naval forces thousands of kilometres away from Iran’s southern coastline.

“The recent battles exposed the hollow and empty nature of the American army to experts and militaries around the world,” Sharif said, according to Press TV, while praising what he described as Iran’s culture of resistance.

He also said Iran had extensive experience dealing with international sanctions and would not surrender to continued economic pressure.
