Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.

Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.

Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom.

Following his death, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.

The visit was disclosed in a Facebook post by Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello. He shared photographs of Ododo and Bello at the residence.

Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from May 2003 to January 2012. He won a second term in the 2007 election and was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012.

The circumstances surrounding his death had not been disclosed at the time of filing this report.
