US Accuses Chinese Hackers of Breaching Justice Department, NASA, Federal Reserve and Senate

The United States government says it has disrupted a Chinese hacking operation that allegedly targeted several sensitive American institutions, including the U.S. Department of Justice, NASA, the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Senate.

According to [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), the U.S. Department of Justice said it seized domains linked to two hacking platforms known as QScan and QTRouter. Authorities allege the platforms were used in a broader cyber-espionage campaign.

A Justice Department affidavit identified additional alleged victims, including the Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, as well as four unnamed companies in the United States and South Korea.

U.S. authorities said the platforms were operated by Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company, a China-based firm they allege provided services to China's Ministry of State Security and the People's Liberation Army.

The affidavit reportedly said infrastructure associated with the group had been used to compromise critical infrastructure and other sensitive computer networks in the United States and around the world since at least 2018.

Cybersecurity experts say the alleged activity reflects a broader pattern in which private Chinese technology and hacking contractors conduct sophisticated cyber operations on behalf of government agencies.

China's embassy in Washington had not immediately responded to requests for comment. Beijing has routinely denied responsibility for state-sponsored hacking allegations.

The U.S. government's action represents another escalation in the growing cybersecurity tensions between Washington and Beijing, particularly over alleged Chinese espionage targeting government institutions and critical infrastructure.
