Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers who were abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue operation was carried out after security forces received information on Saturday, August 8, that terrorists had intercepted and abducted commuters travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe.
According to the Media Information Officer of JTF North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops from Sector 2, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force stationed in Tsafe, immediately mobilised to the area.
Danja said the troops encountered the terrorists while they were moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.
“Acting promptly, the troops mobilised to the location and made contact with the terrorists,” he said.
The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into nearby bushes. All 33 passengers were subsequently rescued safely.
Security forces also launched an operation to search the area and track the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, noting that the operation resulted in the safe rescue of all the victims without casualties.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, restricting the activities of terrorists and securing major transportation routes across the North-West.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about the movements and activities of terrorists and other criminal elements.
