Seven Miners Killed in Plateau Mining Pit Collapse

Seven miners have died after a mining pit collapsed in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Wednesday evening.

Residents said the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. while the miners were working at the site. The miners were trapped underground after the ground suddenly caved in, prompting residents and fellow miners to launch rescue efforts.

A community member, Albert Danlami, said some people were injured in the collapse, while the trapped miners were later found dead.

Rwang Tengwong, Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, confirmed that seven miners lost their lives in the incident.

The tragedy has thrown the Kassa community into mourning, with residents calling for urgent government intervention to improve safety standards at mining sites.

One resident, Timothy Bako, said the victims were young men who had gone to work to support their families. He urged the government to regulate mining operations and enforce proper safety measures to prevent further deaths.

Community leaders have also appealed to the Plateau State Government and relevant agencies to provide immediate support to the victims’ families and strengthen safety regulations across mining sites in the area.
