Seven Abducted Gateway ICT Polytechnic Students Rescued Alive in Ogun

Seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted by suspected gunmen, have been rescued alive following a coordinated security operation in Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the successful rescue during a press briefing in Abeokuta on Thursday, describing it as a major achievement made possible through the joint efforts of security agencies.

According to the governor, security operatives launched an intensive search-and-rescue mission immediately after receiving reports of the abduction. The operation involved the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Security Network, local vigilantes, and hunters.

Abiodun disclosed that all seven victims were rescued in the early hours of Thursday. One of the students sustained a gunshot injury during the incident but was promptly taken for medical treatment and is now in stable condition.

The governor said additional support, including a police helicopter, was deployed to strengthen the rescue mission. He assured residents that security forces remain on the trail of all those involved in the kidnapping, including collaborators and sponsors, stressing that they would be arrested and prosecuted.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed that two suspected kidnappers have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang. He also reiterated that no ransom was paid for the students' release.

The students were abducted on July 29, 2026, from a private hostel along Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo, Ogun State. Authorities say security operations are still ongoing to ensure all suspects are brought to justice.
