The Kaiama Development Association (KDA) has revealed that 13 people remain unaccounted for after the recent rescue of victims abducted by terrorists in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to the association's president, Yakubu Salihu, only 163 of the 176 people originally kidnapped have regained their freedom, leaving the fate of the remaining 13 unknown.
Salihu called on security agencies to investigate whether the missing victims died while in captivity or are yet to be located.
The development comes after the Federal Government secured the release of hundreds of captives from terrorist camps in the Kainji Forest, covering parts of Kwara, Niger, and Kebbi states.
The rescued victims are currently undergoing security screening at the military cantonment in Wawa before being transferred to Ilorin for medical treatment and eventual reunification with their families.
Salihu said many of the survivors are suffering from severe physical and emotional trauma after spending months in captivity. He disclosed that one of the women gave birth while being held by the terrorists, while others are believed to be pregnant.
He also dismissed reports that the community paid ransom for the victims' release, insisting that although residents attempted to raise funds, no ransom was eventually paid.
While commending the Federal Government and security agencies for the successful rescue operation, Salihu urged authorities to address the root causes of insecurity in the area to prevent future attacks.
