Personnel of the National Gendarmerie stationed at Hilé-Alifa in Cameroon’s Far North Region, under Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics courier and recovered approximately 21,000 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Moussa Goudja, was arrested on August 10, 2026, during a patrol operation in the Dougoum Silio area of Logone.
According to the Acting Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi-Onyenonachi, the suspect was found with three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers. The containers reportedly contained about 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Goudja was transporting the ammunition to Ambdego, where he was intercepted by security forces. He is currently in the custody of a national security agency as investigations continue.
The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General S. T. Audu, commended the Cameroonian security forces in Sector 1 for the successful operation, saying the arrest disrupted an attempt to deliver a significant quantity of ammunition to terrorist elements operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
The MNJTF said it remains committed to strengthening intelligence-led operations and cooperation with national security agencies to disrupt terrorist logistics networks and enhance security across the Lake Chad Basin.
The Force Commander has also directed all sectors to intensify patrols and clearance operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and improving peace and security in the region.
