Tinubu, Sultan Urge Nigerians to Unite Against Insecurity and religious hate.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, and other prominent Nigerian leaders have called on citizens to put aside religious, ethnic and political differences and unite in the fight against insecurity and other challenges facing the country.

The leaders made the appeal on Tuesday in Abuja during the International Conference on National Security for Socio-Economic Development, organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in collaboration with the Muslim World League of Saudi Arabia.

They warned that allowing religious and ethnic divisions to deepen could worsen insecurity and hinder Nigeria’s development.

Representing President Tinubu at the event, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin said the Federal Government was working to strengthen national security while promoting unity and cooperation with other countries.

He described the conference as timely, given the complex security challenges confronting Nigeria and other nations.

Sultan Urges Christians and Muslims to Stop Insults

The Sultan of Sokoto urged Christians and Muslims to stop insulting one another, stressing that mutual respect and religious tolerance were essential for peaceful coexistence.

He said neither religious group should consider itself superior to the other, noting that all human beings were created by God.

The Sultan also called on Nigerians to revive the culture of caring for their neighbours regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

He expressed concern about the spread of false and offensive statements on social media, particularly those targeting public officials, and urged citizens to focus on solving national problems rather than promoting division.

Nigerians Must Unite Against Insecurity

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris also called for greater unity among Nigerians.

He said the country's religious, ethnic and political differences should not stand in the way of collective efforts to tackle insecurity.

Idris urged Nigerians to think and act as one people, warning that allowing religious divisions to influence the fight against insecurity could make the situation worse.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said Nigeria's diversity in faith, ethnicity, language, culture and traditions should be regarded as a source of strength rather than division.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, warned against extremism and attempts to impose one way of thinking on everyone.

He said diversity was part of God's creation and that efforts to eliminate it through violence and conflict would ultimately fail.
