Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received a new Nigerian Army battalion deployed to Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen security in the state.
The governor disclosed this on Tuesday through his official Facebook page after meeting with senior military commanders, including the General Officer Commanding 9 Division of the Nigerian Army and Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield, Major General Yakubu Yahaya, and the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.
AbdulRazaq said the deployment would enhance security operations and help intensify efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other criminal activities in Kwara.
He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the swift deployment and said he was confident that the additional troops would improve peace and security across the state.
The governor also revealed that preparations were underway for the deployment of another Army battalion to the Patigi axis of Kwara.
He said an Army team was already working to identify a suitable location for the new military base in Patigi.
AbdulRazaq commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the additional military deployments, describing the decision as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in Kwara.
He also praised the President for approving improved welfare packages for soldiers, saying the measure would boost the morale of troops involved in the fight against terrorism and other security threats.
The development follows President Tinubu’s approval in July for the establishment of a new Army battalion in Kwara as part of measures to strengthen security and tackle banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes.
The Omu-Aran battalion is expected to increase the deployment of troops and military equipment to the area and surrounding communities, particularly those facing security challenges.
