Three people have been killed in overnight drone attacks targeting port cities in Russia and Ukraine, as the conflict between the two countries continues to intensify.
In Russia’s Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, a Ukrainian drone attack killed a child, injured another child and a woman, and damaged dozens of buildings, including residential homes, according to local officials.
The city’s mayor, Andrei Kravchenko, described the attack as a “horrific night.” The strikes also damaged the city’s grain terminal. Eight people were reportedly injured elsewhere in the wider Krasnodar region.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had intercepted and destroyed 502 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukrainian drones were also reported to have damaged several homes in Russian-occupied Crimea.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine’s southern port city of Kherson, Russian Shahed drone attacks killed two people and injured at least two others, including an elderly woman.
A separate Russian attack in Zaporizhzhia caused a fire at a shopping mall and disrupted electricity supplies to about 1,200 consumers.
In Odesa, Ukraine’s largest seaport, Russian strikes damaged infrastructure. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed it had targeted a fuel depot that was allegedly being used to supply Ukrainian forces.
The latest attacks come as Russia and Ukraine continue to target each other’s energy, port and logistics infrastructure.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv had submitted proposals to US negotiators aimed at ending the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Despite diplomatic efforts, negotiations have largely stalled, while both sides continue to launch attacks across the front and against strategic infrastructure.
