Five Killed in Series of Michigan Shootings as Suspect Found Dead

Five people and the suspected gunman were killed in a series of shootings in Michigan on Friday, according to police.

Officers responded shortly before noon to reports of a shooting at a home in Missaukee County, about 170 miles (270 kilometres) northwest of Detroit. Police found three people dead and another person critically injured. The survivor was taken to a hospital.

Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, who had fled the scene before officers arrived. Authorities launched a large-scale search and later discovered another victim dead at a second home.

Hickman was considered armed and dangerous, and police urged residents not to approach him. His vehicle was eventually located in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake, where officers found his body along with another deceased person.

Authorities said the investigation would continue through the night as officers processed the various crime scenes. The identities and ages of the victims had not been released pending notification of their families.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she had been briefed on the incident and was monitoring the situation, expressing sympathy to the victims’ families and the Missaukee County community.
