U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States would launch an overwhelming military response if Iran attempts or succeeds in assassinating him.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump said the U.S. military was fully prepared to strike Iran, claiming that hundreds of missiles were ready to be deployed if any attack targeted the American president.
He stated that military orders had already been issued and warned that the U.S. would "completely destroy" key areas of Iran if such a threat became reality.
Meanwhile, Iran has rejected Trump's accusations, insisting it has respected the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached with Washington. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of violating parts of the memorandum of understanding by reimposing sanctions and taking other actions that undermine the agreement.
The exchange marks another escalation in tensions between the two countries despite recent efforts to revive diplomatic talks. Qatar and Oman continue to mediate discussions aimed at reducing hostilities and preventing a return to wider conflict.
The dispute also comes amid renewed tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic global shipping route, with both sides trading accusations over recent military actions and sanctions.
Although diplomatic contacts remain ongoing through regional mediators, officials on both sides have maintained tough public positions, leaving the future of the peace process uncertain.
