The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a ban on the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state.
According to the board, the directive is aimed at protecting public morality and promoting Islamic values. The announcement was made by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, on Thursday.
He said the decision followed complaints that some operators were distributing pornographic films and other video content considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.
The Hisbah Board said its personnel have been deployed across the state to enforce the ban through routine patrols and monitoring. Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with Kano State laws.
Aminuddeen also urged those affected by the ban to seek alternative lawful means of earning a living, adding that the measure is intended to protect young people from exposure to harmful and indecent content.
The Kano State Hisbah Board, which oversees the enforcement of Sharia-related regulations in the state, has introduced several measures in recent years aimed at promoting Islamic values and preserving public morality.
