El-Rufai Ally Salisu Lukman Resigns from Party

Former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West) and close associate of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Salisu Lukman, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal conflicts and alleged unfair treatment by the party's leadership in Kaduna.

In a resignation letter addressed to ADC National Chairman David Mark, Lukman said he could no longer remain in the party due to what he described as "hostile and disrespectful treatment," particularly by leaders aligned with El-Rufai.

Lukman accused the party's Kaduna leadership of sidelining him in key decisions, saying the situation left him feeling marginalized and stripped of any meaningful role within the party. He also expressed disappointment that the coalition's goal of building a strong democratic alternative had been overshadowed by personal interests.

He further criticized former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, alleging that he bypassed established party structures in Kaduna by working with individuals whose commitment to the party was questionable.

According to Lukman, the growing internal disagreements could weaken the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the party risks becoming a minor political force if the crisis continues.

He concluded by saying it was better to step aside than remain in an environment where his expectations had been repeatedly frustrated. Lukman thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and said he would reflect on his political future.

As of the time of reporting, neither the ADC leadership nor the camps of Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi had officially responded to Lukman's resignation.
