FG Arraigns Three Over Kidnap of Oyo Pupils, Teachers

The Federal Government has arraigned three men before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The suspects—Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani—were charged with a 10-count offence, including terrorism, kidnapping, concealing information, incitement, and illegal mining.

According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly conspired with other suspects between January and May 2026 to abduct the victims. They are also accused of withholding information about the planned attack despite having prior knowledge of it.

The government further alleged that the three men were members of Darul Salam, an affiliate of the banned terrorist group Ansaru. Prosecutors said Abdulrazak Umar also used a WhatsApp group to recruit and encourage acts of terrorism and was involved in illegal gold mining in Suleja, Niger State.

The case was brought following investigations by the Department of State Services (DSS). The court is expected to continue hearing the matter in line with Nigeria's terrorism laws.
