Analysts Say Continued Israeli Strikes Are Hindering Gaza's Recovery

Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued despite a months-long ceasefire, with a recent strike in Jabalia reportedly killing the director of a police station and several police officers.

Political and strategic analysts interviewed by Al Jazeera argue that the continued targeting of police officers, government officials, medical workers, academics, and other civil servants is weakening Gaza's civilian institutions and hindering post-war recovery efforts. They contend that the attacks could obstruct plans for reconstruction and future governance of the territory.

According to Gaza health authorities, the conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries since October 2023. Gaza officials also allege that thousands of ceasefire violations have occurred, while humanitarian aid and civilian movement remain heavily restricted.

The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has expressed concern over attacks on police personnel, noting that law enforcement plays a key role in maintaining public order and supporting future reconstruction efforts. The conflict has also severely affected Gaza's healthcare and education sectors, with hospitals, schools, and universities suffering extensive damage.

Analysts quoted in the report claim that Israel's long-term strategy is aimed at preventing Gaza's political and economic recovery, while Israeli officials maintain that military operations are intended to eliminate security threats posed by Hamas and prevent future attacks.

The report also states that the US-backed "Board of Peace," proposed to oversee Gaza's post-war administration, has struggled to operate effectively due to ongoing violence and instability.

Meanwhile, Palestinian factions are continuing diplomatic efforts with regional mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, in hopes of advancing the implementation of the ceasefire and improving humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Negotiators are urging stronger international action to ensure the agreement is fully enforced and reconstruction efforts can begin.
