US-Iran Talks Postponed as Israel Continues Attacks on Lebanon

Planned talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland over the technical details of their ceasefire agreement have been postponed.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that the meeting, scheduled to take place at the Burgenstock Resort, would not proceed on Friday. No new date has been announced.

Reports say Iran delayed sending its delegation because of ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon. The attacks reportedly killed at least 16 people, while Hezbollah said heavy fighting continued in the area.

The talks were expected to involve the US, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan, with discussions focused on implementing a 14-point memorandum signed earlier this week.

US Vice President JD Vance had been preparing to travel to Switzerland to lead the American delegation, but the trip was cancelled after the sides failed to finalise arrangements.

Israel and Hezbollah are not parties to the US-Iran agreement, but Iran has demanded that Israel withdraw from parts of southern Lebanon where its forces are operating.

The postponement comes as regional tensions remain high despite efforts to extend a ceasefire and restart diplomatic negotiations.
