Russian strikes kill 5 in Ukraine as Zelenskyy pushes renewed diplomacy

Russian attacks across Ukraine have killed at least five people, including a pregnant woman, in the northeastern Kharkiv region and the Donetsk area, Ukrainian officials said.

In Kharkiv’s Chuhuiv district, overnight missile strikes destroyed residential buildings and shops, injuring at least six people. Separate drone attacks in the city of Kharkiv wounded 16 others, including children, with local authorities reporting widespread damage to homes and vehicles.

In Donetsk region, two people were killed in the towns of Bilozerske and Druzhkivka, while further strikes in Sloviansk and Shabelkivka left 11 people injured.

The attacks come amid escalating long-range drone strikes by Ukraine on Russian oil facilities, which have caused fuel shortages in parts of Russia, alongside continued large-scale Russian air assaults on Ukrainian territory.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had “very positive” discussions with US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, aimed at reviving diplomatic efforts to end the war. He also held talks with European leaders and said preparations were underway for upcoming G7 and NATO meetings.

Zelenskyy said the goal remains to strengthen international pressure on Russia while pushing forward peace negotiations, despite ongoing battlefield escalation and differing global focus on other conflicts.
