The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully recovered 245 rustled cattle and disrupted two separate kidnapping and cattle theft operations in Igabi and Kudan Local Government Areas.
According to police reports, armed bandits stormed a Fulani settlement in Rubu Village, Igabi LGA, where they tied up herders and security guards before fleeing with a large herd of cattle. A swift response from police operatives, local vigilantes, and community members led to a coordinated pursuit that forced the attackers to abandon over 200 cattle and escape into nearby bushland.
In a separate incident in Hunkuyi, police recovered an additional 45 stolen cattle after receiving intelligence that the animals had been hidden along the Zaria–Kano expressway. When security forces arrived, suspected bandits engaged them in a brief gunfire exchange before fleeing with injuries, leaving the livestock behind.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the attacks.
The police command praised the collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups, describing it as a key factor in the success of the operations. Residents were also urged to continue providing timely intelligence to support ongoing efforts to combat banditry and cattle rustling in the region.
