Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi has said he is carrying a “special message” from Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership to Iran’s top authority during his official visit to Tehran.
Naqvi made the remarks after meeting his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Mo'meni on Saturday, stating that the message reflects concerns over the current regional situation and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
According to Naqvi, the communication comes from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and is intended for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
He said the visit also involves delivering a formal letter and supporting continued dialogue aimed at reducing regional tensions, particularly amid Iran–US diplomatic friction.
Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator in recent months between Tehran and Washington, hosting discussions and encouraging negotiations following heightened regional hostilities earlier this year. Islamabad previously helped facilitate a temporary ceasefire and early-stage talks, although those efforts failed to produce a lasting agreement.
Naqvi expressed hope that diplomatic initiatives led by Pakistan’s leadership would help ease tensions and eventually lead to a broader settlement.
During his meeting, both sides also discussed bilateral cooperation, including border security, counter-narcotics operations, and counterterrorism coordination.
Iranian officials reportedly welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement. The Interior Minister emphasized that Pakistan and Iran share “brotherly relations” rooted in historical, cultural, and religious ties.
Iranian authorities also reiterated support for expanding economic cooperation. Both countries agreed to work toward increasing annual bilateral trade from around $3 billion to a target of $10 billion, pending coordination across multiple ministries.
Naqvi is expected to continue meetings in Tehran, including talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials.
Officials from both sides described the visit as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize regional relations and strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
