Ondo Senatorial By-Election: Over 673,000 Voters to Choose New Representative

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says a total of 673,446 registered voters will participate in the upcoming senatorial by-election in Ondo South Senatorial District, scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The election is being held to fill the vacant seat previously occupied by former senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

According to INEC officials, voting will take place across 1,354 polling units and 66 registration areas in six local government areas, including Ilaje, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, Irele, and Ese-Odo.

The commission confirmed that the voter register has been cleaned and verified, while election materials and 1,359 BVAS machines have been prepared to ensure a smooth and credible process.

INEC assured stakeholders of its readiness and emphasized that only valid votes will determine the outcome of the election.

The contest will feature candidates from several political parties, including the APC, APM, APP, and the Boot Party, as voters prepare to elect a new senator for the district.
