The Nigerian Army has renovated and commissioned the headquarters of the 81 Battalion and the official residence of its Commanding Officer at Letmauck Cantonment, Mokola Barracks, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The project was carried out to improve soldiers’ welfare, strengthen operational effectiveness, and provide a better working and living environment for military personnel.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, said the renovation reflects the Army’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of troops and their families.
He said the projects were not only structural improvements but also strategic investments aimed at boosting morale, productivity, and combat readiness.
The renovated battalion headquarters now includes improved office spaces, a conference room, furnished workstations, modern facilities, air conditioners, refrigerators, and a newly built car park.
The Commanding Officer’s residence was also upgraded with enhanced security features, perimeter fencing, a gatehouse, garage, guest facilities, bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, and other modern amenities.
The former Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Agaku, said the renovation became necessary after an assessment of the barracks’ facilities revealed the need for major improvements.
He explained that the work, which started on February 17, 2025, was completed on May 15, 2026, following proper supervision and quality control.
Agaku said the project was aimed at restoring pride, improving morale, and creating a better environment for soldiers to perform their duties.
The commissioning was attended by senior military officers, commanders, personnel of 81 Battalion, families, and invited guests.
