Afrobeats star Davido has responded to Hausa singer Dauda Rarara after criticism over his decision to highlight Nigeria’s insecurity crisis during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles.
The controversy started after Rarara described Davido’s action as “barbaric,” accusing him of presenting Nigeria negatively before an international audience.
During his performance on June 10, Davido wore a customised jacket with the words “Bring Them Home” and the names of more than 40 schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.
The gesture received praise from some Nigerians, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who supported the call for attention to the victims.
However, Rarara criticised the move in a video shared on his verified Facebook page, saying sensitive security issues should not be projected internationally in a way that could harm Nigeria’s image.
He also questioned Davido’s intentions, suggesting that insecurity should not become a political issue.
Reacting on X, Davido replied with the word “Debidooo,” which many interpreted as a playful response linked to Rarara’s pronunciation of his name.
Rarara later responded with a Hausa expression, and Davido replied in Hausa, saying he would have engaged in a discussion if Rarara had knowledge of the matter.
The exchange has continued to attract reactions from Nigerians online, with many debating whether Davido’s action was a responsible global advocacy effort or a move that could affect Nigeria’s reputation.
