The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has killed several terrorists, including senior commanders, in a precision air operation carried out in the Lake Chad Basin region.
According to a statement by the Air Force, the strikes targeted terrorist hideouts in the Northern Tumbuns area, particularly around Metele in Borno State, a known stronghold of insurgent activity.
The operation was conducted under Operation Hadin Kai after intelligence reports and surveillance missions confirmed increased movement of armed groups in the area.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the air raids were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following credible intelligence.
He explained that air assets identified and engaged concealed terrorist structures, adding that post-strike assessments confirmed the destruction of the hideouts and the neutralisation of “scores of terrorists.”
Military authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and prevent further attacks on troops in the region.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, commended the operation and reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to sustaining pressure on armed groups across the country.
He said the military would continue to use air power to locate and destroy terrorist positions and deny them safe havens within Nigeria.
