Nigeria and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cultural relations with the launch of the “Hello Nigeria—2026 Panda Painting Interactive Experience” in Abuja.
The event, held at the China Cultural Centre, brought together diplomats, government officials, artists, students and cultural enthusiasts to promote friendship, creativity and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of the Chinese Embassy described the giant panda as a symbol of peace, harmony and friendship, noting that the initiative aims to connect Chinese and African cultures through art and cultural engagement.
Officials said the programme combines elements of China’s Sichuan cultural heritage with Africa’s rich artistic traditions, creating opportunities for young people to interact and learn from one another.
The event also marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations as Nigeria and China celebrate 55 years of diplomatic ties in 2026.
Representatives of Nigeria’s Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and stronger international partnerships.
The National Gallery of Art also praised the initiative, describing the arts as a powerful tool for promoting friendship, cultural diversity and cooperation among nations.
Students from several schools participated in panda-themed painting activities, while cultural exhibitions showcased shared values of peace, creativity and collaboration.
Officials from both countries expressed optimism that similar cultural programmes would further strengthen Nigeria-China relations and encourage future cooperation in education, tourism, the creative economy and cultural exchange.
