Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army have announced a series of coordinated military operations against United States military facilities in the Gulf region, describing the attacks as retaliation for recent American strikes on southern Iran.
According to statements released early Thursday, Iranian forces launched two waves of missile and drone attacks targeting multiple US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The IRGC said its Aerospace Force and Navy struck 18 military targets, including facilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base and Ahmad Al Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. Iranian officials claimed the operation was carried out in response to attacks on military positions, law enforcement facilities, and areas around Bandar Abbas in southern Iran.
In a separate statement, the Iranian Army said it conducted a drone operation against the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The Army claimed that communication systems, radar installations, and Patriot air-defense components linked to the fleet were targeted during the strike.
Iranian military officials stated that their forces remain prepared for further operations and warned that retaliatory actions would continue until what they described as the punishment of the aggressor is completed.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran's highest operational military command, said the latest military response had forced a halt in part of the recent US offensive campaign. The command praised the actions of Iran's armed forces, describing them as decisive and effective.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said American bombing operations in Iran would soon cease, claiming that senior Iranian officials had contacted him seeking an end to the attacks.
Iran's IRGC rejected the claim, calling it false and describing it as an attempt by Washington to avoid further escalation of the conflict.
The developments come amid reports of fresh explosions in parts of southern Iran, particularly in Hormozgan Province, where Iranian authorities say US forces recently carried out new attacks.
In a significant escalation, Iran's military command also announced the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The statement declared that all maritime traffic, including oil tankers and commercial vessels, would be prohibited from passing through the waterway and warned that any vessel attempting transit could be targeted.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy shipping routes, carrying a substantial portion of global oil exports. Any disruption to navigation through the strait could have major implications for international energy markets and regional security.
The situation remains highly volatile, with tensions between Iran and the United States continuing to rise amid ongoing military exchanges across the region.
