G7 leaders have agreed to expand deliveries of air defence systems, interceptors, and long-range weapons to Ukraine.
The decision was announced in a joint declaration issued after the G7 summit in France. The leaders said the move aims to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against ongoing Russian attacks.
The statement said the G7 would increase supplies of:
air defence capabilities;
additional defence systems and interceptors;
long-range military equipment.
The leaders also said they were prepared to consider allowing Ukraine access to production licences to help expand its domestic military manufacturing capacity.
More Pressure on Russia
The G7 countries pledged to increase economic pressure on Russia, including stronger sanctions targeting the oil and gas sectors.
They said the timing was important following an agreement supported by US President Donald Trump aimed at keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.
Support for Ukraine’s Winter Needs
The G7 also highlighted the importance of energy security and promised continued support to help Ukraine withstand the coming winter.
Middle East and Global Security
In a separate section of the declaration, G7 leaders welcomed the announced US-Iran agreement, saying it could help prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and address concerns over regional and ballistic activities.
The group also expressed concern about North Korea’s nuclear programme and reaffirmed support for a “free and open Indo-Pacific” based on international law.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the summit showed unity among G7 leaders and European officials on supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia.
