French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has called on Israel to end its military operations in Lebanon and urged the United States to put pressure on Israel to halt the hostilities.
Speaking to France Info radio on Friday, Barrot said France continues to work on organising an international conference aimed at supporting the Lebanese army.
The statement comes after Israel said it would not rule out carrying out strikes beyond its current military control zone in southern Lebanon, despite provisions in a US-Iran agreement calling for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Tensions have continued to rise along the Lebanon-Israel border, with Israel reporting that four of its soldiers were killed in Lebanon — the first such incident since the US-Iran deal.
French officials said diplomatic efforts are ongoing to prevent further escalation and strengthen stability in Lebanon.
