A small aircraft crashed near an airfield in Croatia’s northern Adriatic region on Thursday, leaving four people dead while emergency crews continued searching for two others believed to be missing.
Authorities said the accident occurred in the Campanoz area near the coastal town of Medulin on the Istria Peninsula. Rescue teams, firefighters, and medical personnel were immediately deployed to the crash site.
According to Croatian police, four fatalities have been confirmed. Local media reports indicated that search operations were underway for two additional individuals who may have been on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Croatia’s national firefighting association stated that the plane went down close to the Medulin sports airfield, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
State broadcaster HRT reported that the aircraft, which was registered in Germany, had departed from Austria and was en route to Medulin. Images from the scene showed wreckage bearing the German national colors on the tail section.
Investigators from Croatia’s Air, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation Agency are expected to examine the crash site to determine the cause of the accident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
