China Fireworks Factory Explosion Death Toll Climbs to 37

Authorities in China’s southern Hunan province say the death toll from a massive fireworks factory explosion has risen to 37, while one person is still missing following the deadly incident in Liuyang.

The blast occurred on Monday afternoon at a fireworks manufacturing plant in Liuyang, a city widely known as China’s main fireworks production hub. Officials said rescue operations at the scene have now been completed, with dozens of injured victims receiving treatment in hospitals.

State media reported that 51 people were hospitalized after the explosion. Investigators have launched a probe into the cause of the disaster, while police have reportedly questioned eight individuals suspected of responsibility for the accident.

Following the incident, authorities in Hunan ordered all fireworks factories in the city to suspend operations temporarily for emergency safety inspections.

Liuyang produces a large share of China’s fireworks supply and exports, making the industry a major part of the local economy. The explosion is being described as the deadliest industrial blast in China in recent years.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over industrial safety standards in China, where chemical and fireworks factory accidents have caused heavy casualties in the past.
